Description
The Panerai Radiomir California PAM 424 is a visual journey back in time to when Panerai built watches exclusively for military forces. This specific version of the Radiomir harnesses the high-polished, wired-lug version of the Radiomir case to respectfully re-master the 1930s and ’40s, when Rolex and Panerai created highly capable tool watches for the Italian Navy. The no-date PAM 424 is fitted with a charming California dial that has Roman numerals on the upper half of the dial and Arabic ones on the bottom half. The dial has subtle undertones of brown to it which are only enhanced thanks to the golden tones of the hands, seconds track, and yellowed lume. At 47mm in diameter, the Panerai Radiomir California is a large watch; however, due to the elegance of the wire-lug Radiomir case, its wrist presence remains manageable.
Adjusting the time on the watch through the petite onion-style crown reveals the hour hand can be independently set from the minute, making this throwback diving watch incredibly handy for regular time-zone jumpers. This is mechanically possible thanks to the P.3000 caliber that can be viewed in all its glory through the exhibition caseback. With 72 hours of power reserve, the PAM 424 from Panerai is straight out of the history books and made even better thanks to contemporary technical watchmaking.
